Our 2022 highlights

January was a time for clearing the decks of the glitz and glitter of Christmas, and preparing for the new year to come…on the 25th we celebrated St Dwynwen’s Day/Dydd Santes Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers (and all loved ones). We’re all for reasons to celebrate during the short dark days of January!

February was a busy time for us with two big trade fairs to attend, in London and Birmingham- a time for gathering ideas and ordering lots of beautiful new products for the year ahead. We managed to take in some of the city lights at the same time- both trips exhausting but exciting breaks away from our home county of Pembrokeshire.

As always we celebrated St David’s Day on the 1st March- a day for eating Welsh cakes and wearing our daffodils proudly. March is also the main month for taking delivery of our Spring/Summer clothing collections- we were certainly kept very busy unpacking boxes!

These beautiful daffodil paintings are by one of our regular gallery artists, Clare Rose.

April saw the launch of our new Instagram account, after we ‘lost’ the old one (oh, the vagaries of social media platforms…) You can now find us at @_goldensheafgallery_ (we're also on Facebook as The Golden Sheaf Gallery, Narberth). Do consider following us on those platforms if you're not already, to keep up with all the latest gallery news as well as gorgeous images of inspiring new products and artwork.

In May and June our beautiful walled garden really started coming into its own- a lovely, tranquil space to sit on a sunny day and have a cup of tea and a piece of cake from the nearby Malthouse café. And not forgetting the Platinum Jubilee, and an extra Bank Holiday to celebrate!

We had a very busy July… firstly with a royal visit from (the then) Prince Charles, who visited a small number of independent businesses on Narberth High Street. It was a very proud day for gallery owner Suzi and all the Gallery Girls, and an exciting time for the schoolchildren and members of the public lining the High Street!

Then later in July, the Narberth Carnival- it was so lovely to see the decorated floats, to watch the chaotic and hilarious pram push, and to enjoy everyone coming together after the enforced hiatus of the pandemic. The theme of the carnival was ‘bright and colourful’, so we decided to dress ourselves in the colours of the rainbow to celebrate!

The summer holidays in August were all about welcoming visitors and holidaymakers to our two shops- our beautiful main Golden Sheaf Gallery, and our Pembrokeshire Living store in the historic Narberth Town Hall building… Suzi created a gorgeously summery window display for the main shop, celebrating all things holiday-ish.

September brought a cornucopia of tasty delights to Narberth, with the annual Food Festival on the Town Moor. Our September newsletter showcased the delicious foodie treats on sale in our Pembrokeshire Living store in the Town Hall- don’t forget you can sign up to our newsletters by scrolling down to the bottom of the home page: www.goldensheafgallery.co.uk

In October we started to settle in to Autumn, decking our Kitchen Room table in Autumnal shades and getting cosy in the shop with candles, rugs and blankets as the temperatures started to fall. We also continued our preparations for Christmas with boxes and boxes of decorations arriving in the post each week (it starts in September!)…and at the end of the month we donned our witch’s hats and celebrated Halloween.

November saw the publication of his book ‘How to do…cryptocurrency’ by Angelo Morgan-Somers, a very proud moment for his mum, Suzi! Here’s Angelo signing copies of the book in our gallery….well done Angelo!

And finally came December, and the shimmer and sparkle of Christmas! On the 1st we held a successful after-hours shopping event, which are always very popular with our lovely customers.

Suzi sprinkled a little of her magic to create a beautiful and humorous Christmas window, and decorated every one of the six rooms of the shop (as well as the Town Hall) with festive garlands, wreaths, fairy lights and baubles….The Golden Sheaf is always an enchanting place to be at Christmas time, and 2022 was no exception!
